Rec League
The Rec League is an entry point into the game of hockey. It is targeted at developing the skills of the beginner to the intermediate player to both enjoy the game and eventually progress into the more competitive levels. The focus for the house level is on skating, hockey skills and working as a team. Players are also expected to develop grit, responsibility, teamwork, and leadership qualities through the Rec League program.
PREREQUISITES
Players of different levels enjoy the Rec League. Our volunteer coaching staff, guided by our Rec League coaching coordinator, ensures that players of all skill levels learn to work as a team and compete together. Once players have learned basic skating and stick skills, they are ready for the house program. As a guideline, we recommend that players complete one of the following:
- A session of Little Preds LTP Hockey
- One to two sessions of Lil Wild (Formally LTP 2.0)
- The 8U (Mites) Program
Age Divisions
Rec League offers 4 different age divisions.
Divisions are as follows:
8U Mite Division
Birth Year: 2016*, 2017, 2018 & 2019
10U Squirt Division
Birth Year: 2014*, 2015 & 2016*
12U Peewee Division
Birth Year: 2012*, 2013 & 2014*
14U+ Bantam / High School Division
Birth Year: 2008-2009*, 2010, 2011 & 2012*
*Exceptions will be made for younger and older players on a case-by-case basis.
When
Rec League is a 5 month program begins in October through mid March.
8U Rec Hockey
This program will focus on more intensive skating and skill development while offering the parents an easier schedule for practices and games. Here are some facts about the program:
- FUN- hockey should be made as fun for the player as possible.
- The kids should love to come to the rink whether it is for practice or for a game.
- Skating skills will be the emphasis with puck skills secondary.
- Kids should be kept active as much as possible by dividing into small groups and running separate drills.
- Practice ice should be run like a clinic environment. Players will be split up into groups and will work in stations.

10U Rec Hockey
This division is Co-ed suitable for 9 and 10 year old. The Rec Program will practice once per week and play games throughout the season. This league stresses fun, recreation, development of skills, and good sportsmanship. Games have three 14-minute periods with run time.
Objectives
- Enjoyable introduction and experience in ice hockey
- Provide a healthy atmosphere for fun and learning
- Introduce the concept of games and the fun in playing hockey
- Development of communication at the player’s level of learning
- Encourage the players to enjoy, learn and continue to play hockey
- Develop qualities important to hockey: quickness, agility, coordination, balance, strength and flexibility
12U Rec Hockey
This division is Co-ed suitable for 9 and 10 year old. The Rec Program will practice once per week and league games throughout the season. This league stresses fun, recreation, development of skills, and good sportsmanship. Games have three 14-minute periods with run time.

14U+ Rec Hockey
This division is Co-ed suitable for 14+ year old. . The Rec Program will practice once per week and play games throughout the season. This league stresses fun, development of skills, and good sportsmanship. Games have three 14-minute periods with run time. This is a non-contact league.
Objectives
- Provide a healthy atmosphere for fun and development
- Increased competition designed to expand existing skills
- Development of communication at the player’s level of learning
- Enjoyable and rewarding experiences in ice hockey that will encourage continued participation.

Practices and Games will be held at Cool Sports
Practices and Game Format
Age division will have one station-based skill practices, complemented by weekly full-ice games.
Drills will focus on fundamental based skills like skating, passing, shooting, puck handling, etc.
USA Hockey Registration
All skaters must register with USA Hockey before skating on the ice, as required by Mass Hockey. Shortly after completing the USA Hockey registration, you will receive a confirmation email containing your child's USA Hockey Confirmation Number.
You will need your child's USA Hockey Confirmation Number when enrolling in any KAHA programs.
Please remember that all skaters must register with USA Hockey before stepping or skating on the ice.

10U Squirt Division
Two glow puck sessions and 2 - 3 outdoor games.
12U Peewee Division
Skills Competition and Outdoor 3 v 3 Game
14U+ Bantam / High School Division
Skills Competition and Outdoor 3 v 3 Game
Jerseys
All skaters receive team jersey and socks after teams are formed that they keep at the end of the season.
Jerseys are provided by KAHA as long as annual membership fee of $55 is paid in full
What does your annual membership fee cover?
KAHA is the USAH sanctioned governing body for hockey at Cool Sports. the annual KAHA membership fee is collected to help KAHA support our local youth hockey program with items like Coaching Certifications, Officials Education, Hockey training supplies, scholarships, arena upgrades, jerseys, equipment and more.
